For many months, I've been developing items for this holiday sale--some have been in development for years: "pillow" boxes, tumblers, plant "pods," and sculptural bird tiles. All of these clay works have individual whimsical personalities.
I originally developed my "pillow" boxes 10 years ago, but they are now making their debut this month. Decorated with texture, color, and sculptural they hint of treasure.
My tumblers wed my sculptural border tiles with my dinnerware. My tradition of tropical leaves with sculptural surfaces transforms for everyday drinking use. The tumblers are all the same size, which lends to purchasing them in pairs or sets of four.
My sculptural bird tiles push the limit of what you might consider tile. They just made their debut last month at the Artisan Tile Northwest festival in Seattle.
My "planter pods", which I just introduced this summer, at the Crow Valley Potter's Festival on Orcas Island, Washington light up gardeners' eyes. They look like they will dance or walk at any moment.
I introduced my wall "pods" at the Bassetti Garden Art Show in Woodinville, Washington this summer. They come in two sizes, small and medium. They found their way off of my tree bracelets and earings.
New tile images are available: hummingbird "gloriosa", Robin's frogs, and lilies of the valley are among my new small framed tiles. Old favorites such as my turtles, Egyptian cat, and Japanese good luck kitty are available.
Last, but not least, a cousin to my planter pods and pillow boxes are my "Gaudi" jars. They suggest a dance or walk with the promise of a surprise.
If you see a piece of work on my website, that is not listed in the "store," contact me for more information at mariaroot@aol.com.
I have only released items for sale that I would consider giving as gifts to special friends and family. All of the items you view are one of a kind. If an item has sold, there will not be another one just like it in the studio.
Happy shopping for friends, family, and, of course, yourself!
