Garden Art
Garden art is only possible because landscapes provide splendid, fluid, botanical galleries.
My garden art line started with planters in the 1970s. Since then, they have taken on a life of their own. Over the years, Primitiva Pottery's garden art has grown to include nests and baths for birds, totems to watch over the garden, sprouts, post finials, and tree jewelry. My garden art brightens up winter landscapes and co-mingles with the garden plants the rest of the year without 'stealing the show.' Some of my garden art, such as the totems, have a big impact with a small footprint; they are stunning in groups--or mixed with sprouts and bird spas if you want them to "steal the show".
I use terracotta clay for my planters and garden totems with layers of porcelain clay laminated in thin coats to produce vivid colors, which still have an earthiness to them. Sometimes I use white stoneware clay to obtain a certain weathered glaze effect. All of these pieces are winter hardy in westcoast climates--or gardening zones 7 to 11.
